The Mitzvah of placing the Mezuzah on your doorposts |
In building our own Home, we gave some thought to how best to perform this Mitzvah. Here are several ideas I wanted to share with you:
Each mezuzah is 4 inches square (10 cm), written on klaf shlil (the finest parchment, made in a workshop in Elon Moreh), written by a scribe living in Elon Moreh, and known personally to me as a Ben Torah with Yirat Shamayim, painstakingly checked by a certified magiah (proof reader), sealed in a protective plastic sheath and sent to you by registered airmail in a special padded envelope. Does not include case. Certified Kosher LeMehadrin. |
The Mezuzah must be unquestionably Kosher. In order to ensure that no flaw exists in the scribe's work, each Mezuzah is painstakingly checked by a certified expert. We do not ship Mezuzot with even the smallest question concerning their Kashrut. All our Mezuzot are certified Kosher LeMehadrin by Rabbi Elyakim Levanon, Rabbi of Elon Moreh and Rosh Yeshivah. |
The Mezuzah must be written by a Jewish Scribe, with Yirat Shamayim. All of our scribes are known personally by me. They are all long-time Yeshiva students, now married and living in new Jewish communities surrounding the Biblical city of Shechem, with exemplary personal and family lives, immersed in the performance of Mitzvot. This is certified also by the Rabbi of our community. |
The Mezuzah should be durable. Coating the parchment makes it easier and faster to write on, though in the course of time the coating may flake off and destroy the integrity of the writing. Our Mezuzot are written directly on uncoated, hand prepared and selected parchment from shlil, made in a workshop in Elon Moreh. If protected from moisture and abrasion- they should last for generations (though the Halacha is- all Mezuzot should be checked by an expert, twice each 7 years). |
The Mezuzah should be Mehudar (elegant). In addition to the basic fulfillment the Mitzvah, we are always searching for ways to achieve completeness and add elegance fitting to such a Holy work. While some people have asked for smaller Mezuzot, our scribes find it nearly impossible to preserve the perfect form of each letter and word, as well as a beautiful, balanced overall appearance, if the Mezuzah is too small. That is why we do not sell those smaller than 4 inches. |
